| Sorry if this is a silly question but I have just bought train tickets to visit queens on thursday in order to buy the £16 ground admission tickets I have never seen a live tennis match before so would be quite happy just to see some on the outside courts. On the website though, it says tickets are sold out. Does this mean you cant buy any at all on the gate? Will I be able to get in or will it be a wasted journey? thanks for your help. |

Well, I never knew that Queen's students have to hate on UoT students and vice versa. My parents went to UoT and I'm going to Queen's. I guess that when I come home for thanksgiving they'll try to kill me with the turkey knife or something.
Really, isn't this whole "___ University is a **** for ****ing ***'s, and their degrees are only good for toilet paper" dialogue rather contrary to, y'know, that whole "enlightened values of higher learning" thing? |

You should have listened to your parents and gone to UofT. They only want what's best for you |

Why do people even spend time to fight over an issue like this? It really doesn't matter which University is BETTER, if you, the student, is a high achiever and is willing to work hard then you will shine no matter which university you go to. If you are not a high achiever then being in a "better" university won't put you ahead of anyone else. Some people probably feel that if they can convince others that they go to a superior university, then it will somehow make them more prestigious compared to students who went to another university. But what difference does it make once you supply your GPA to grad school administrators, or apply for a job that measures you on your performance? So what if someone degrades your university as being inferior? What do you propose you will gain for spending time and effort defending it? If they want to look down on your school, then let them. Your school will not reward you for defending it, nor will the people who look down on your school gain anything useful from doing so.
I personally believe that the whole University ranking bullshit is misleading for students and on purposely stir up controversy. No one will look at your transcript and say, "Oh, you're from XXXXXXX university, I hear your school pumps out XX amount of research papers on Nature this year so I'll consider you for this position over other applicants." Most media that performs University rankings love it when people start fighting for their Universities, because it stir up controversy and gives them more marketing exposure. When people are asked to back up their arguments on why their school is better, some of them will inevitably link back to said magazine and use their "data" as proof!
You guys are suppose to be in higher education, yet you don't possess the critical analytical skills that you should possess. Stop fighting over such pointless issues and do something more productive with your time. I'm so sick and tired of going to university based forums and seeing 10 pages flame wars on the most ridiculous topics. |

I had the same situation, got admission from both U of T and Quees, and I chose Queens University. In my Idea get admission and scholarship from Queens University is much harder than all of other universities in Canada (Except Mcgill). I belive that Queens University and Mcgill Universitiy are the best Universities in Canada.
Altough in International rankings, rank of U of t is much higher than Queens but quality of Queens University is much higher and inside the canada Queens in ranked higher than U of T. |
It depend on your field of study. In engineering, Scince and bussiness (include MBA)i think Queens is much better than U of T.
in all other fileds,it is better to choose u of T. |
I agree with you. In engineering, Scince and bussiness (include MBA) Queens in much better than U of T , and may be the best University inside the Canada (also Mcgill and Waterloo ), but except those fields ,Queens does not have good programs. |

So I was recently accepted into both Queen's University and University of Toronto and have no idea which one to choose. I will am in both for the arts and sciences.
thanks in advance |
If you can get into U of T you sure can get into Queen's, the marks are at a certain level depending on how many people apply to the program. You need to also think about the program to make a choice.

I am a student who did life science at queen and uoft...for a year each...it was sorta an exchange program...
and in my opinion, the uoft teaching quality is a lot better!
the profs, the courses, the experience, the classes.... etc. everything is a lot better!
dont get me wrong, queens has an amazing program and it is an amazing school, however, uoft has a lot more to offer, experience and quality wise.
Good luck!! |
